I’m not a writer, and I’m barely a runner

bd959176-c157-4fde-afc4-688e8c9d22e5I will turn 40 this year. I tried to think of something really fun that I could do to ring in the 40’s. For my 30th birthday, I had a house party. It was complete with a DJ, strobe lights, drunkenness and lots of friends. I have no interest in that sort of party for my 40th. So, I started to look at family vacations. It’d be nice to be somewhere tropical with my 2 favorite men (son and husband) for my birthday. But, I was feeling too much anxiety about spending so much money after our Disney trip over Christmas. I decided that I could do something significant for my life instead of something expensive. It’d be tough, but I’d learn a lot and get in shape at the same time.

I’m a fair weather runner. I like it, I belong to a small run group and I run a big race every year to have something to work toward. The last few years, I’ve run half marathons. The training felt like a part time job and I’ve always said that I was NOT interested in doing a full. Until I thought about 40. I think I have a strong foundation: Good health, a few good running friends and a milestone birthday (well not really a milestone but a round number). What I would need is commitment, patience and drive. All of which usually goes right out of the window when the going gets tough.

So, that’s why I’m writing this blog. I signed up for a marathon in October. I want to use this blog in order to document my progress and to motivate me to follow through.

The picture is my first run of 2019. It was cold but beautiful.  (The next few runs weren’t so fun due to freezing temps but I’ll leave those pics for next time)
